Patrick Mahomes’ Dad Fights for Freedom to Watch the Chiefs QB Play His Comeback Season

Patrick Mahomes Sr. is going to court to get back to Chiefs games.

The father of the two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes Jr. is petitioning a Texas judge to ease a probation restriction tied to his 2023 DWI arrest, clearing the way to watch his son play this season.

The former MLB pitcher, 56, filed a motion seeking permission to travel outside Texas for Chiefs games in Kansas City, Las Vegas and Cincinnati, Fox 10 reported Friday, September 4.

While his superstar son is eyeing another Super Bowl run, Patrick Sr. remains on probation after pleading guilty in August 2024 to driving while intoxicated, his third DWI offense.

He received five years of probation, including one year of intensive supervision, according to KETK. Under the proposed arrangement, Patrick Sr. would still have to complete urinalysis testing before and after each trip, according to Fox 10’s report.

The outlet also reported he has completed 160 hours of community service and a 16-week outpatient treatment program.

WBZ reported that his February 2024 arrest came eight days before the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

According to KLTV, police said his blood alcohol content was 0.23 when he was stopped in Tyler, Texas.

Patrick Sr. was jailed again in February 2026 over an alleged probation violation involving alcohol consumption. Court records cited by TMZ said his ankle monitor registered an elevated alcohol reading on January 1, though urine tests taken January 5 and January 9 were negative.

Patrick, 30, addressed his father’s legal troubles during an August 2025 episode of ESPN’s The Kingdom.

“I think just knowing that it hurt me woke him up to know that, like, you can’t keep doing the same things,” Patrick said.

Patrick Sr. also expressed regret. “For him to have to answer questions about me was probably the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever been through in my life,” he said.

His request comes as Patrick prepares for a significant return.

According to talkSPORT, the Chiefs quarterback has spent the past nine months working his way back from the ACL and LCL injury that ended his 2025 season early.

Patrick is aiming to return for Week 1, when Kansas City is scheduled to face the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday, September 14, NFL.com reported.
