Kyle Chandler channeled his beloved Coach Taylor from Friday Night Lights for a promo ahead of the first game of the NFL regular season on Netflix.
The ad, shared on Instagram on Thursday, September 10, was directed by the series’ cocreator Peter Berg, and features the Lanterns star’s powerful narration over images of athletes, cheerleaders and fans of various ages on the football field and in the locker room, including memorable moments from the last NFL season.
“And so it begins. Right here, right now, today. You are going to win. You’ll use your eyes to win. Your eyes will show you the truth. You’ll recognize it whether you like it or not without wishing you were seeing something else,” Chandler, 60, narrates.
“The truth on the field is never something else. You will not look away. You will feel the truth together — in your hearts,” the Zero Dark Thirty star continues.
“Your eyes will see clearly, your hearts will feel fully. You will play with your eyes clear and your heart full. If you can do that, and then do it again, and again, I assure you, you cannot lose,” he adds, before concluding with the show’s famous catchphrase – “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.”

Chandler starred on all five seasons of the critically acclaimed, Emmy-winning series from 2006 to 2011, alongside Connie Britton and then-rising stars including Taylor Kitsch, Jesse Plemons and Michael B. Jordan. The show was based on a movie directed by Berg, which was itself inspired by the nonfiction book, Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream, by H.G. “Buzz” Bissinger, about the Permian High School Panthers in Odessa, Texas.
The San Francisco 49ers won the first game on Netflix, beating the LA Rams 47 to 7 in front of 100,000 fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.
