When Josh Jacobs put his hands behind his back after scoring a touchdown, it had nothing to do with his arrest earlier this year.
During the Green Bay Packers‘ Thursday, October 29, game against the Carolina Panthers, the running back, 28, crossed his arms behind him after scoring his second touchdown — and many interpreted that to be a reference to his May arrest.
When asked by reporters about the move, the athlete said that “they didn’t get the whole celebration,” implying that he was only shown for “one second” after scoring.
“Anyways, me and Savion [Williams] came up with a celebration, if they would’ve shown the whole celebration,” Jacobs continued, saying that he always planned to mark a touchdown by referencing the gospel song “Break Every Chain.”
“That was going to be the next celebration,” he said. “It’s just a correlation, but like I said, the media gonna run with it; they’re going to make it something that it wasn’t, but it is what it is.”
According to People, Jacobs was arrested in Brown County, Wisconsin, on May 26 in relation to an incident that took place between him and his former girlfriend days prior.
He was reportedly booked on five domestic battery charges and pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property charges on September 10.

Jacobs spent the first six weeks of the season on the NFL‘s commissioner exempt list. The six games he missed would be credited toward any suspension, ESPN reported.
According to the outlet, Jacobs was convicted of battery, fined $1,000 and reached a deferred judgment agreement on the property damage charge.
He finally made his 2026 season debut when the Packers faced off against the Detroit Lions.
As for Thursday night’s game, the Packers beat the Panthers with a final score of 27-19.
