FIFA’s official photo celebrating Spain’s 2026 World Cup title appears to have cropped out President Donald Trump, who had been booed minutes earlier during the on-field medal ceremony.
Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in the final on Sunday, July 19, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, with Ferran Torres scoring in extra time. Trump handed the trophy to Spain captain Rodri alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino and was met with boos when he appeared on the stadium screen and walked onto the field, Forbes reported.
The picture FIFA posted to its official account on X showed the team lifting the trophy, but Trump, who had lingered on the stage, was no longer in the frame. As Parade reported, only a sliver of his suit stayed visible at the edge. Spain’s own Instagram post of the moment also left him out.
FIFA has not said whether the crop was deliberate, so the change is best described as apparent rather than confirmed.
On the broadcast, Australian commentator Claudio Fabiano was caught on a hot mic predicting, “They’re gonna edit him out of that.” The video also showed Infantino appearing to steer Trump away from the players after the handover.
By Monday afternoon, the White House had posted its own set of six photos from the final.
Several prominently featured the president, and in two of them, Forbes noted, he is the only person in focus, while just a couple included the Spanish squad. The images ran with a caption crediting Trump with “crowning the champions.”
