“My wife was a gymnast,” Kirk, 57, said on the Tuesday, August 25, episode of the Bussin With the Boys podcast. “So when we would get done … she heard the male sperm were faster. She would do a headstand or handstand. She would go up on the bed, and we’re four for four.”
Despite their apparent success rate, Kirk added that he “wanted a girl.”
While there is no evidence to support the Herbstreit’s theory, Kirk and Alison share sons Jake and Tye, both 26, Zak, 23, and Chase, 19. The couple met while he was playing college football at the Ohio State University and she was a cheerleader.

Kirk recently revealed that his wife quietly battled breast cancer in 2024.
“I haven’t really talked about this publicly, but Ali, my wife, faced some stuff,” he said on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show in January. “It’s been a tough year for me behind the scenes. My wife got diagnosed with breast cancer.”
The diagnosis followed their son Zak’s heart condition that left him hospitalized for five days in 2023.
“My son had heart failure two years ago,” Kirk told Pat McAfee. “They were talking about a heart replacement there for a while, and he had to medically retire…So there was that side of it, looking down and seeing him in his jersey after, you know, potentially facing replacing your heart to that.”
