Jason Kelce turned a football observation into another self-deprecating joke about his changing body after retirement.

The former Philadelphia Eagles center, 38, was in the NFL Network booth for the Eagles’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, October 11, when emergency long snapper DaVon Hamilton caught his attention.

Jason, who is also the older brother of Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, praised Hamilton, 29, for stepping into the unfamiliar role after Ross Matiscik suffered a shoulder injury, Us Weekly reported on Monday, October 12.

“I love it from the big fella. When I got fat, when I put on weight — I used to long snap in high school — when I got to 300 pounds-ish, it became really hard to look in between your legs,” Jason explained. “That’s an awesome job to come in there in an emergency and help your team out. Way to go, DaVon Hamilton. I love it.”

Kurt Warner, who was calling the game alongside Jason, disagreed with his assessment.

“You’ve never been fat,” Warner, 55, said. “You’re just husky.”

Jason then joked about where he falls on the BMI scale.

“If you look at the BMI, I think I’m technically obese. Morbidly,” he said.

Jason has been working to shed his playing weight since retiring from the NFL in March 2024 after a 13-season career. He has also shown a knack for self-deprecating humor when talking about his size.

During ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown in December 2024, the retired Eagles star reacted to a Jason Kelce lookalike contest held in Philadelphia and poked fun at himself.

“Newsflash! Any overweight white guy with a beard looks just like me,” he joked in comments transcribed by People.

That same dry humor has carried into his post-retirement weight-loss journey, with Jason often making himself the punchline as he discusses the physical changes that came with leaving the NFL.

In May 2025, Jason told Us Weekly that he weighed about 270 pounds, down roughly 25 pounds.

“I don’t really want to get below 250,” he said then. “So, I think somewhere between 250 and 265. We’ll see where it goes.”

He also opened up about his weight loss in a June 2024 GQ interview, saying losing weight had already helped physically.

The dad of four said, “But my back already feels better. My knees already feel better. So another 20 pounds hopefully will make that much more adept at playing with my children.”

Jason and wife Kylie Kelce share four daughters, Wyatt, 7, Elliotte, 5, Bennett, 3, and Finn, 18 months.
